This repair is used for the cleaning and filling of transverse contraction joints or longitudinal joints without sawing the joint face clean. The joint shall be cleaned as much as practical of old joint material without widening the joint. The removable of the existing joint seal material from the joints can be accomplished with ripping teeth, wire brush, sawing or other reasonable equipment to the satisfaction of the engineer. However, the contractor shall not use equipment that will cause spalling of the pavement surface beyond the limits of the existing joint width. The contractor may determine the amount of joint material needed to fill the existing joint widths.
