Infection Control Long Term Care: Transfer of Residents With Suspected or Confirmed Tuberculosis

It provides nursing professionals with criteria for identifying specific body-site infections. This enhances the objectivity of reporting signs and symptoms to providers and helps providers make decisions whether or not to culture sites, order other diagnostic tests, and/or prescribe treatment, including antimicrobials. Residents with suspected or confirmed active pulmonary tuberculosis will be transferred to a facility with appropriate tuberculosis isolation facilities. All personnel with resident contact will have a single baseline tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) and a medical history taken when hired. These personnel should also receive initial training about tuberculosis and the facilities policies and procedures. This training should be repeated annually.
