Passive fire protection methods include using fire-rated doors which help to isolate and allow for control of fires a building. A fire separator door is designed with hardware that can withstand a certain degree of heat, and is insulated with fire retardant materials. The door assembly surrounding a separator is also designed to attach to the door frame in such a way as to not open unless being opened by a person so that the heat or draft from a fire cannot open the door to let in an oxygen source.
