Winter Maintenance Checklist Heritage Building (Canada)

The checklist includes looking for ice damming as the only prepopulated item. However, it is important for other items to be checked including checking the gutter and downspout for obstructions such as leaves from the fall, conducting repairs to mortar joints and other masonry surfaces, inspecting the roof, looking for loose shingles, caulking cracks and openings, caulking window trims and doors, checking the heating system for problems, including heat ducts and water pipes, checking smoke detector batteries, replacing screens with storm windows, draining hoses, and checking weather stripping. Additionally, depending on the building type and location, other checks should conducted, such as when evaluating heating ducts, the furnace should be checked, and furnace filters should be replaced; when checking smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors should be checked as well; when checking gutters, the roof can be evaluated. Damage anywhere around the building should be noted. The fall checklist is important for preparing for winter, and the inclement winter weather.
