Monthly Underground Storage Tank (UST) System Inspection Checklist

UST Systems require regular inspection and maintenance. This UST System Inspection Checklist provides an easy to use form that a UST Operator or owner can use on a monthly basis to evaluate the state of a UST. The form checks dispenser sumps, piping components, product shear valves, vapor shear valves, flex connectors, leak detection equipment including automatic tank gauges, interstitial monitoring, inventory control, line leak detectors, groundwater monitoring and more. The checklist also has coverage for the tank area. An owner of UST should have a UST program in place that includes a checklist such as this one, along with corrective actions that can be undertaken. Use of this monthly checklist and any corrective actions should be covered in operator training. Leak detection is important to ensure hazardous materials don't leak into the environment - for example, fuel storage tank underground that has corrosion on the pipes or the tank itself is subject to leaking, and contaminating water sources.
