DOJ Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): Evidence Collection Kits

Evidence comes in many forms, shapes, and sizes, and having the correct way to collect the evidence in place is critical. Blood collection, excavation, fingerprints, and other types of evidence are all collected very differently. Accordingly, it is important that investigators and law enforcement have the correct tools in place to properly collect and process evidence. For example, sexual assault crimes require the use of rape kits which involve photographing injuries and victims, collecting DNA evidence, and more so that the sexual abuse can be documented and biological evidence collected. Theft crimes and certain violent crimes may require latent print collection, trace evidence collection, and more. To properly execute the collection of evidence, this app helps to provide guidelines and lists of what should be present in any investigator's repertoire of useful tools.

The DOJ Crime Scene Investigation series of app is intended for use by law enforcement and other responders who have responsibility for protecting crime scenes, preserving physical evidence, and collecting and submitting the evidence for scientific examination. Physical evidence has the potential to play a critical role in the overall investigation and resolution of a suspected criminal act. Realization of this potential depends on actions taken early in the criminal investigation at the crime scene.
