Assisted living communities can apply for a special permit using the Florida Assisted Living Facility - Special ALF Permit app. In the app, assisted living facilities must fill out information about the business, and ensure that the company meets the following requirements: have a current consulting pharmacist, medication meets labeling requirements, prepackaged medication bears expiration date, unit dosage medication is properly labeled, customized medication packages are properly labeled, policy and procedures manual is available for inspection, policy on destruction of controlled substances meets requirements, documentation is available demonstrating procedure for monitoring the accountability of controlled substances, the consultant pharmacist of record is inspecting monthly and providing a written report, etc.
