Whilst the range of impairments respected as being associated with ‘disability’ has increased, so has the awareness in the public mind that the medical condition is only a part of what actually disables a person. How society makes provision for those with impairments is also a factor in whether a person is able or disabled from engaging with society in as normal a way as possible. Under the Equality Act 2010, churches are required to look at their building and service provision to assess what they can reasonably amend to allow greater accessibility by those with impairments. The Access and Inclusion Audit (UK) app provides a questionnaire designed to assist a church to engage with access and inclusion issues regarding those termed ‘disabled’ within their church building (the goal being inclusive design). It is suggested that a small group take time to go around the church building(s) with these questions and record what they find. The findings can reveal what might be reasonable to amend in the short, medium and long term to promote the highest level of diversity and inclusion possible.

“I’m not a tech guy and I was able to pick this thing up in probably an hour, and actually start to build apps. I’ve done them over lunch when I’ve gotten frustrated with a process that didn’t exist in our company. So for non tech people who’ve got a problem, the support here is awesome and I’d recommend it to anybody, not just in our industry.”
