As a means of protecting farm animals and the overall health of the herd, certified quarantine units may be used. The Application for Certification Under the Welsh Government’s Quarantine Unit (QU) Scheme (Welsh) app will allow farm managers to apply for certification of a quarantine area. Farm managers will be able to share plans for designated quarantine areas on the farm so an animal with a possible disease, such as Cattle Tick, Brucella Abortus, BVD, Bovine Leukosis or another infectious disease or parasitic disease, can be isolated from the herd, and keep the remaining livestock free of disease. This will also allow farm managers to keep the infected animals on the farm and under the care of a veterinarian. Applying for this certification will also require farm managers to have a bio-security plan in place to protect the herd and overall cattle industry.
