The Death Scene Checklist (Canada) is an app that can prove to be useful when law enforcement/police officers or medics respond to a scene where a dead body was found. In many cases, death may simply occur as a result of deteriorating health with age, or other known maladies. In other cases, the cause may be less clear, or it may be evident that a crime was committed leading to death. This app should be deployed by a medical examiner or law enforcement officer at a crime scene investigation, or when performing a death investigation. The app notes important information such as the name and biographical information about the deceased, the name and contact information for the next of kin, who notified police, when the deceased was found, where the body was found, the condition of the body, whether a weapon was used, and whether a robbery appears to have been committed at the scene. Other information the app collects includes evidence of drug use or drug paraphernalia, or if there is evidence of any deviant sexual practices which may have lead to an unexpected death. In some cases, a forensic investigator may be able to use the data collected in this app to give context to a death scene that has been cleaned up before their arrival. Collecting this information enables a thorough investigation to be performed by a medical examiner's office or law enforcement agency.

“I’m not a tech guy and I was able to pick this thing up in probably an hour, and actually start to build apps. I’ve done them over lunch when I’ve gotten frustrated with a process that didn’t exist in our company. So for non tech people who’ve got a problem, the support here is awesome and I’d recommend it to anybody, not just in our industry.”
