In some cases, they are simply pets of the farmers, other times they produce milk or eggs, or they are produced for meat products. Farms may also be exposed to wild animals. Food products need to be kept separate from farm animals as their manure and other byproducts can contaminate the production areas for fruits and vegetables - this is a standard practice in managing food safety. These contaminants can lead to illness and public health scares, which is why taking preventive measures and engaging in stringent record keeping is important to ensure the health and well-being of consumers and workers alike. The Farm Food Safety Plan: Animals, Wildlife, Livestock app should be used by farmers who have farm animals such as domestic animals, or pigs, chickens, or other livestock on their property. The app will require farmers to document the farm animals and document any corrective actions needed to ensure the farm is in compliance with industry regulations and requirements for any food safety certification program that may be relevant for the farm.
