The land may have been used for livestock operations, residential use, watershed, for growing other types of fruits and vegetables, or maybe even a dumping or storage site. The same goes for adjacent properties. If the land was used for another reason within the previous five years, it is in the best interest of public health that farm management conducts an inspection of the area and soil to determine if the area is safe for crop production. These requirements will ensure the safety of consumers. Documenting the previous usage will help to mitigate food safety risks and limit public health concerns.
