Inappropriate shelter, malnutrition or the lack of access to adequate medical and mental health care services can complicate the life for a number of refugees. Home visits by health workers can provide invaluable insight into the health, nutrition, medical care, social networks of a community. Home visits should be closely supervised to ensure that data collection efforts are effective and to maintain a consistent presence among the displaced population that is being assisted. With the Rapid Health Assessment for Refugees: Weekly Home Visit Report app, health workers can track mortality rates from infectious diseases through weekly home visits. The app user will note the date and site location and record any deaths of a child younger than five years of age or anyone about five years of age throughout the course of the week. During a crisis period, this data should be collected weekly to calculate the under-five mortality rate.

“I’m not a tech guy and I was able to pick this thing up in probably an hour, and actually start to build apps. I’ve done them over lunch when I’ve gotten frustrated with a process that didn’t exist in our company. So for non tech people who’ve got a problem, the support here is awesome and I’d recommend it to anybody, not just in our industry.”
