Sewage or other liquids are slowly pumped into the tank and solids and other particles settle at the bottom of the tank, forming sludge. It is important that there is a proper flow rate between units, that the sludge and scum collections systems are functioning and that any chemical, such as chlorine, added during the process is noted.
